My first Keds shoes
My grandma and I were at the Arrival area of an international airport waiting for her sister's arrival from Germany. I was ten years old. They have not seen each other for five years and back then they only communicate through letters sent by mail or occasional long distance telephone calls. My grandma used to ask me to write the letters for her if her hands get tired of doing chores or I would insert some pictures of the family for her to see how everyone looks like.
It was around 3 o'clock in the afternoon when we saw her walking down the ramp with a her luggage in tow. She was wearing her usual sweater, jeans and boots combo; her hair has always been short and her skin as fair as ever. We all hugged as soon as she approached us.
Each time a family member arrives from abroad, it's always a treat because of the many trinkets we receive from them. Part of the family tradition is to go to duty free shops and each one gets a chance to pick one item. I chose a Keds sneakers because I was an active kid and you can't buy a pair in regular malls. She asked me if it's what I really want and I said yes while I hold the sneakers onto my chest. We live in a small town and if you want to buy branded stuff, you have to travel at least two hours. I was able to hold on for my first pair of Keds for four years before I finally let go of it. We've been through a lot of running, biking and playing at the park and those memories still hold dear to my heart because even if my grandma had to go back to Germany to work, we kind of share the fun through the Keds sneakers she bought for me.

The Craziest Designer Shoes
It has been a while since I posted about shoes that are on the crazy side but are on the market for the small margin of customers who are giddy about extraordinary shoe designs. Those shoes do not come cheap, though, because most of them are designed and produced by established brands and they are launched on the runway. Take a look at some of the daring shoe designs so far.
This Dolce & Gabbana pump is actually fun to look at. It reminds me of fiestas, carnivals and pizzas. The crazy thing about it is the heel in the shape of a woman who looks like a queen because of the embellished heel atop her head.
This lady debuted on the Resort 2017 runway. It also comes in black, light blue and white. What's crazy about this shoe is that it is a brogue with buckled toe, crystal embellished heel and the three straps that go up above the ankle. It actually looks like a 4-in-1 shoe--pumps, brogues, sandals and boots.
The only crazy thing about this Balmain pump is the exaggerated tongue that creates an illusion of a boots if you look at it in front. It also comes in all black suede. It's Balmain and I bet Kim Kardashian-West won't mind owning one.
So, this Aquazzura sandals is tribal inspired. Tassels and beads are recurring embellishments on shoes in the past few years but when added with feathers to tickle your legs, that's something.
Unstable heel? Check! Multiple buckles? Check! Crazy! But in all honesty, I would love to try this on.
This is what Rihanna and Kim Kardashian-West wore a few days ago. Riri wore the bright orange version while Kim had it in black. The crazy feature of this boots is that it goes way up to the hips--the waist, almost, if you are petite. This design collaboration is from the Spring 2017 collection.
This shoe has an identity crisis. Period.

Sneakers have gone couture at Chanel Spring 2014 fashion show
If Coco Chanel still lives, do you think she will approve of sneakers going haute couture?
Karl Lagerfeld, for Chanel's Spring 2014 collection showcased too many iridescent and see through dresses with matching sparkly sneakers of black and bubblegum colors.
I still can't believe that Karl, who wouldn't be caught dead wearing sneakers would design one for a haute couture fashion show.
This is such a huge leap of faith for a brand that is known for timeless sophistication that is Coco Chanel. What can you say?

New Shoes: Fila volleyball shoes
I don't feel any guilt at all buying this Fila sneakers. I need this because I am going to use it for my volleyball training every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. My team will compete with other companies this March and I need a shoe that will keep up with the demands of my training. I don't know how many times I have told you how much of a bargain junkie I am. Anyway, I bought this for 60% off its original price at SM Mall of Asia--the biggest shopping mall in the Philippines.
Do you have a sport?
I have been playing volleyball since I was in elementary, around age 9 or 10. I tried out for the sport in the hopes of becoming a part of the team that would represent my school in the District Meet. I belong to a family of volleyball players. My aunts and uncles used to play, too, and they were really good at the sport. I guess they were the ones who inspired me to play, or maybe, I inherited it to them. Either way, it is good that I have a sport.
I was actually quite excited buying this shoe because it is my first time. My mom and aunts would buy me sneakers from the US so I never really had the chance to buy one for myself, until now. I have a Skechers that I have been using since time immemorial and I believe it is time for it to rest.

Seen: Willow Smith in Adidas Y-3 by Yohji Yamamoto 'Oriah' high cut sneakers
![]() |
| Photo from E! Online |
While browsing E! to get my daily shot of tabloid news, I saw this photo of Willow Smith. She looks happy and fine while out and about in NYC. She actually looks like a normal kid here compared to her previous wacky styles. But, despite the "normality", those Adidas Y-3 by Yohji Yamamoto 'Oriah' high cut sneakers still caught my attention.
I featured these unusual high cut sneakers last February and I was wondering how anyone could walk in them. Well, I guess the wondering ends now because our little fashion risk taker did the honors. You can have your very own pair at Zappos Couture for $690.

It took me about a minute to decide what to call this interesting footwear by Yohji Yamamoto. And although I have decided to call it high cut sneakers, I am still trying to convince myself that it is a sneaker. Sneakers should be comfortable, isn't it?

I don't know if the design has something to do with Kung Fu Panda 2. That panda sure looks really happy that it will be able to land on someone's feet, finally. It looks adorable but it's my son I could see wearing it instead of me.

Shape Up While You Walk
Uhuh! That's the Skechers promise.
My grandma owns a Skechers Shape-Ups and she uses it everyday while walking around the community. I have been trying to squeeze in work out in my daily routine but it always end up not being done. And so, I wonder why I do not own a shoe like this.
The Skechers Shape-Ups promises these things:
So, if you would like to test this product, Skechers Shape-Ups is now in stock at Shoes.com.

Caring for the Sick in Style a la Grey's Anatomy
I work in a hospital... I am not a nurse or a medical technologist who is obliged to wear nursing uniforms every day. I feel lucky to have the option of wearing chic and stylish clothes and shoes when going to work. The only time I get to see our medical staffs looking chic is during events and boy, I can hardly recognize them.
One time, one staff, maybe because her inner fashionista couldn't take it anymore, asked our human resource if they could change their uniforms. Before she approached the human resource, she already did some research about custom made scrubs. She showed some samples and I was impressed that a hospital scrub uniform can actually look cute and fashionable.

I imagine them wearing cute scrub uniforms and wearing shoes like Skechers Shape-up XF Accelerator sneakers--like working out but not really, like the doctors of Grey's Anatomy.

Valentino lace high-top sneaker
This is simply overkill. Sneakers with spikes, I think, is better than sneakers with lace. What do you think? You can view its specs at Neiman Marcus.

Ash 'Neo' high top sneaker
I am not a sneakers person, in fact I only have one that I seldom use... never bought one actually, it was given to my by my aunt. I like that sneakers are comfortable and made for long walks around the mall but rugged isn't my style. I like peep toes, they are the borderline between pumps and sandals but that doesn't mean if they are put into sneakers, I will like the shoe. Ash may want to lure me into liking their sneakers by making it peep toe, but they fail miserably. If the sneakers were made to what they normally look, I am fine with that and I will not have any negative thing to say.
For those of you who want the best of both worlds, you can buy this at Shopbop.

Christian Louboutin 'Louis' studded high-top sneakers
This is a Christian Louboutin... don't mistake it for any brand. Yes, it is! I have two things in mind for this when I first saw it: 1. Why? 2. Does this have the brand's iconic red sole? For my first question, anyone of you would say 'why not?'. For my second question, yes it has! Crazy isn't it?! To see for yourself, buy this.
